Yesterday, Professor Glenn Beck informed his viewers, or should I say the scholars enrolled in his course “Obama- Will-Be-Rounding-You-Up-and-Jailing-You-Any-Day-Now -101” that a looming violent event is coming in America. Now, no prerequisites are required to enroll in Professor Beck’s class, as a matter of fact, the lower your level of education, the more likely you are to excel. Prof. Beck does not want anyone tainted with the brainwashing doled out by the liberal education system. No, the ideas of American Exceptionalism and Manifest Destiny were taught in one room school houses like those on the Little House on the Prairie, and our education system need not instill us with any more than that.
The Juan Williams NPR firing Fox hiring debacle just will not go away, and once again, and I hate to say this, but it is the extreme right wing end of the argument that is winning the spin game.
It all started when Bill O’Reilly went on The View and well, take a look:
Whoopi and Joy, you could have said, yes, Bill, it is a fact that Muslim’s killed us on 9/11. Because, well it is a fact. But is only the most recent chapter in a long history of US meddling (let me clarify that term)-murdering innocent civilians — innocent civilians in the middle east, many of them Muslim’s and all perilously close to the Muslim holy city of Mecca and the Hyper-capitalist holy grail of foreign cheap oil.
I’m talking about a history that goes back to at least 1953 when the CIA overthrew Iran’s democracy and the more recent history of the first gulf war, and the subsequent sanctions that killed at least 1/2 million Iraq children while leaving US boots on the ground in the middle east.
Then a few radical Muslims-from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia it seems, aided and abetted by an ignorance or a come on over wink wink nudge nudge say no more attitude that went all the way up to the White House flew a few planes into a copula buildings, killing thousands of Americans.
So what do we do? We launch a viscous and brutal war against the defenseless country of Iraq that killed at least 1 million innocent civilians and created untold numbers of orphans at least a few of which, I am certain, will grow into radicalized Muslim’s prepared to martyr themselves.
So when, days later, Juan Williams says in a debate with Bill O’Reilly that he does a double take when he is on a plane and he sees people who self identify as Muslims, this is understandable. Muslims, like Christians, are batshit crazy to begin with, what with their irrational belief in an all knowing creator of the universe that wrote a book of laws for them to live by (and a confusing book at that, preaching peace on the one hand and commanding you to kill the infidels on the other). Juan’s fear is also understandable in the context of the oil and flame combination of these batshit crazy religious people being incited by the unbelievable amount of their blood shed by American hands.
Where Juan’s fear is not justifiable is in the context of statistics. The overwhelming majority of Muslims just want to eat, work, and play in peace. Williams himself made this point, but it was to late, because NPR has shown itself incapable of any sophisticated debate or discussion about the holy war we are waging in this world.
We know that the randian regressive christian conservative tea bagging fox news network wielding a blunt instrument in the merry go round of the 24 hour partisan feeding frenzy, but NPR, in explaining Juan Williams firing stooped to suggesting that Williams “keep his comments between him and his therapist”.
Fox news, not missing a PR beat, reached into their pockets and has snatched up Williams, offering him a $2 million contract. Sarah Palin, without a mis spelled word or malaprops in sight, wrote: “If NPR is unable to tolerate an honest debate about an issue as important as Islamic terrorism, then it’s time for ‘National Public Radio’ to become ‘National Private Radio,’” she wrote. “It’s time for Congress to defund this organization…President Obama should make clear his commitment to free and honest discussion of the jihadist threat in our public debates – and Congress should make clear that unless NPR provides that public service, not one more dime.”
And Juan Williams wrote on Fox News.com “Daniel Schorr, my fellow NPR commentator who died earlier this year, used to talk about the initial shock of finding himself on President Nixon’s enemies list. I can only imagine Dan’s revulsion to realize that today NPR treats a journalist who has worked for them for ten years with less regard, less respect for the value of independence of thought and embrace of real debate across political lines, than Nixon ever displayed.”
When you get a card carrying liberal like Juan Williams to place a standard bearer of the liberal elite like NPR below tricky Dick Nixon, then I am left tipping my cap to my regressive counterparts on the right. They simply are better at spin. Their victory is our loss.
Again.

Stewart Vs. Fox, round 1,341 by Davis Fleetwood
find me on facebook, AlterNet, twitter, itunes, BlipTV, youtube, myspace
This summer, the Right Network will premiere, making Fox News look like very middle of the road by comparison. Until that next chapter in the infotainment culture wars begins, it sure is fun watching John Stewart pick apart the regressive windbags at Fox.
Last week John Stewart ended yet another critique of Fox news hypocrisy with a line that could only have been penned by a team of highly paid writers when he said, in a shot heard round the internets, “You know I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, go Fuck yourselves.”
Stewart opened last night’s show by breaking down the Fox News rebuttal, offered up by Bernie Goldberg, whose sniveling direct address to Stewart served like slow pitch batting practice pitches that Stewart dutifully hit over the fence- erupting into a gospel number in which had Stewart dancing and testifying, gospel style, while he and his background singers repeatedly sang “Go Fuck Yourself.” And his writers earned their paycheck when Stewart said:
“Fox News is such a crazy overreaction to the perceived threat of the liberal pathogen in evidence at NBC, ABC & CBS, that it is like an autoimmune disorder. I’m not saying the virus does not exist in some small quantity, but you are producing way to many antibodies. Fox News: You’re the Lupus of News.”
As Stewart points out again and again, Fox cannot win this argument and maintain it’s “Fair and balanced” moniker. Stewart, as he himself contends, is not drifting into the news category. The News is drifting into his. Continue reading →
Believe it or not, there some among us who have suggested that the Super Bowl itself is one big commercial for war, beer, capitalism, sexism and nationalism. To those people, may I suggest spell-check your incoherent scribbling in the communist manifesto because today we celebrate America. Today we celebrate the top ten commercials from the 2010 Super Bowl.
Here is no particular order, are my top ten commercials- vote on your favorite in the comments below.
Below the break, you can see these commercials in full:
While there were so very many things about last nights state of the Union address that inspired within me the urge to end the suspense already and just take a flying leap off of a cliff, let’s start with something positive shall we?
Obama said:
“With all due deference to separation of powers, last week the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests — including foreign corporations — to spend without limit in our elections.”
Yes! As I have said previously, the recent Supreme Court decision will make it more likely that people will chose to piss into a gale force wind rather than vote.
Then he hedged:
“I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities. They should be decided by the American people. And I’d urge Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that helps to correct some of these problems.”
Some of the problems?
In the vast wasteland of problems embedded in our current system, a mountain of corruption only topped off with the cherry that is the recent Supreme Court ruling, you have thrown down the gauntlet and suggested a bill be created to address some of the these problems? This is just the type of mealy-mouthed mediocrity that assumes, correctly I believe (although we can argue about which is the chicken and which the egg) our society’s collective masochism, our existential dilemma, our manically depressed desperation that screams- this is the best our humanity has to offer?
It just this kind of rhetoric that inspired Howard Zinn (who, faced with the prospect of watching Obama’s State of the Union last night dropped dead of a heart attack) to quip: “If the gods had intended for people to vote, they would have given us candidates”
But, as any President faced with rapidly deteriorating approval ratings and the accompanying diminished influence over the silver spoon yahoos parading around the marble halls of the House will tell you, it’s the economy stupid.
Obama acknowledged this by saying:
“Families across the country are tightening their belts and making tough decisions. The federal government should do the same. We are prepared to freeze government spending for three years. “
Of course, there are exemptions to this. The Pentagon, fierce adherents to the philosophy that the best defense is a good offense, will continue to see its budget increase. While Obama promised not to turn his back on the uninsured in America. What then do you call spending more than 50% of the overall Federal budget on the military, whose primary function it seems, is to uphold, through the application of unilaterally applied lethal force, the American Dream, as articulated by the President last night, “I will not accept second place for the United States of America!”
Afterwards Chris Matthews said that watching the state of the Union he forgot Barack Obama was black. And that this was a major accomplishment of his presidency- the ushering in of a post racial society.
You’ll excuse me if I withhold my applause until we elect a president who can usher in a post Imperialist society, one with the Charlie Browns or a va jay jay (this is a post women’s movement society) to usher in single payer, slash military and defense spending and do something, anything, to steer us out of the path of our Christian Nations self fulfilling prophetic date with Armageddon.

The Supreme Court ripped the rug out from under the electoral process, the death toll in Haiti is at 70 thousand and climbing, but what really captures our attention is the late night civil war over at NBC between Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien.
Given that the whole goal of late night television is the exact same goal as programming on the home shopping network, I have always admired the latter for their honest and direct approach to create a need where none existed and separate my money from my wallet.
But even I had could not resist the civil war that has waged over the Late Show. Like any right minded individual I was in Conan O’Brien’s corner. I was, as they say, with Coco.
Now Coco has a 33 million dollar golden parachute, with another 12 million being paid out by NBC as severance to his staff of 200.
And filed under the category of this could only be funny in America to Americans, we have the vindictive childish tantrum, serving as Conan’s final shows for NBC.
On Wednesday night, Conan smiled cheeky and waved during a one-minute bit wherein he displayed a purchased sports car while the Rolling Stones blared in the background.
In Conan’s own words: comedic value, zero. What this 60 seconds cost NBC: $ 1.5 Million. On Thursday, he outdid himself: a mink coat covering a former Kentucky Derby winning horse watching rights restricted archival NFL football coverage. Cost: 4.8 Million dollars.
Even as reports surface that those bits did not costs as much as Conan has boasted, the fact that we laugh and cheer for this underdog- this underdog who was paid 33 million to stop working during a time when millions Americans are loosing their jobs and the supreme court just made individual Americans participation in the democratic process obsolete- I mean our grandkids will want to hear us tell stories about “when” people voted – shouldn’t Conan have to do more to earn his status as underdog hero.
Again, what about paying the 50 hottest FHM girls, fly them down to Haiti and have them perform sex acts on survivors while that pants on the ground guy sings his song as a duet with Lady Gaga in the background. Then you can sell the sex tapes with all funds going to Haiti survivors.
Talk about a viral bit of uplifting entertainment.

Haiti’s Deal With The Devil
by Davis Fleetwood NoCureForThat {at} gmail {dot} com
You all know by now (and if you don’t, I’ve included the video at the bottom of this post) that Pat Robertson called the earthquake in Haiti a blessing in disguise, and indicated further that they were a poor nation because they had made a pact with the devil. In the immortal words of the very mortal George Carlin: will someone please stick a dick in that guys mouth?
According to Pat Robertson, tectonic plates shifted under Port Au Prince causing the most violent earthquake there in 200 years because Haitians had made a deal with the deal with the devil because “they were under the heal of the French, you know Napoleon the 3rd, or whatever, and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said we will serve you if you get us free from the French. True story. And so the devil said okay it’s a deal.”
Christ on a fucking crutch, it would be easy to dismiss Robertson if Satan himself did not just issue a press release saying: “No, really, will someone stick a dick in that guys mouth! I mean take the swollen head of your penis and smack his fucking Uvula around until it drips the blood of fucking Christ! And do it while sitting on his face backwards so that your anal juice drips in his eyes. First person to do this to Robertson wins immortality.”
No, I kid. The Devil does not issue press releases. I just made that up.
But Pat Robertson has got a point. Look at the United States. We didn’t make a deal with the devil. We made a deal with the almighty God. And because of that deal the reaction to the ongoing devastation that is the man made disaster in Iraq (over 1 million innocent civilians dead) does not inspire celebrities to twitter donation pitches so that the Red Cross can take care of the Iraqi people). Hell, our nation was founded on genocide, but since we didn’t make a deal with the devil, this is taught in schools under the catchy phrase “manifest destiny”.
Look. Don’t get me wrong. We will give. We should give. You should give. I’m giving. I want you to know that I am opening up my very shallow wallet and I am giving what I can. That said, I will be matching my donation to the Red Cross so that they may help in Haiti with a donation to War Child: an international charity that protects children living in the worlds most dangerous war zones.
I suggest you do the same.
Wouldn’t you agree Pat Robertson? Helping the Haitians and the Iraqis and Afghanis sounds like a good idea doesn’t it?
What, I can’t hear you, is something stuck in your throat?

Sarah Palin joins the Fox Infotainment crew/ Culture Wars: ON!!!! REGRESSIVES VS. PROGRESSIVES by Davis Fleetwood
During the heat of the last Presidential election, you remember the actor Matt Damon (video below) describing the possibility of Sarah Palin becoming VP as something akin to a “really bad Disney movie” and the idea that she will have the nuclear codes while simultaneously holding the belief that dinosaurs walked the earth four thousand years ago was something that needed to be stopped.
And just like that, Matt Damon took Hollywood and many an impressionable citizen over to the bandwagon that democratic majority leader Harry Reid described as a “light skinned, with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one”.
Yes, it was a popular bandwagon that lent credence to the age-old saying, circulated; African-Americans tell me, amongst themselves. “If you’re black, get back; if you’re brown, stick around; If you’re light, you’re alright”
And while many pundits are scratching Palin off of the 2012 Presidential ticket, it would be a mistake to underestimate her potential influence.
IF Barack Obama’s 1st year in office has shown us anything it is that no matter how popular you are as politician, you still can’t get anything done.
Leaders in the culture wars fighting the battle for the hearts, minds and pocketbooks of America on the front lines of infotainment- these are the people with real influence.
Good. The regressives have upped the ante.
One year into the age of Obama, it is clear that this administration will not drag the United States domestic policy out of the middle ages, it is clear that Obama is even more of a “war president” than his Crusading predecessor it is time we took the battle to a different front. To the frontlines of infotainment.
Progressives should give up on Obama, give up on the farce of electoral politics altogether, and dig your heels in the trenches and we re-ignite the culture wars here in the United States: A non violent war of ideas for a post politically correct era that will affect the beliefs and behaviors of individuals and pushes religious extremism, social conservatism, and homicidal foreign policy of the Sarah Palin variety to the fringes of society to wallow in the shadow of shame with the followers of Zeus.
